Anaerobic processes – safety, analysis, energy
The treatment of municipal and industrial wastewater and its subsequent reintroduction into the water cycle is the main task of wastewater treatment plants. The sewage sludge produced is collected in digestion towers and decomposed there in anaerobic digestion processes. Waste is stored long-term in landfills and is also subject to anaerobic digestion processes. In both cases, digestion gases are produced, which are either incinerated via flares or increasingly used to generate energy.
In addition, energy generation in biogas plants through the anaerobic decomposition of organic substances has now established itself as an important pillar of energy generation from renewable processes. The key value-determining component of the biogas produced is methane, which is used specifically for energy generation.
Legal requirements must be met. The gas analysis of main components such as CH4,CO2, O2, N2and trace gases such as H2S, NH3, H2, siloxanes and volatile hydrocarbons (VOC) provides information on energy content, process control and explosion risk.

Mastering challenges
The technical requirements and challenges within sewage treatment plants, biogas plants and landfills are sometimes very similar. The gases to be measured usually have a high water vapor content and may contain corrosive, toxic and explosive components. This means that ATEX zones can be present both during extraction and transportation as well as during the treatment of the gas.
The easy-to-maintain PSG Plus probe can also be equipped with an ATEX heating system.
The PSG Process Extruded sample gas lines and the patented PSG Process Extruded ATEX2 combine several advantages in one: the extremely robust and resistant PVC or TPU outer jacket guarantees a long service life. In addition, the line can be shortened to the correct length on site.
During processing, the PTFE-coated heat exchanger of the powerful PSG Plus cooler MAK 20 system ensures a corrosion-resistant and hydrophobic surface. The PSG Process cooler from the BCR ATEX series ATEX is designed for use in Zone II.
In addition, PSG has been supplying turnkey solutions for over 30 years with worldwide references, ranging from small processing systems on mounting plates to entire analysis houses and containers.
